Melese Getenet
Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Granada
I am a PhD candidate at the Andalusian Earth Sciences Institute, a joint Earth Sciences research institute of Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Granada. My doctoral research focuses on mineral pattern formation and self-organization in high-pH and carbonate-rich soda lakes of the East African Rift Valley to learn about the geochemical plausibility of mineral self-organization on early Earth and their role in life detection and origin of life. I am also investigating evaporation-driven mineral precipitation in soda lakes to understand the hydrogeochemical evolution of brines and mineral assemblages and textural relations of modern and ancient evaporite deposits. I have published the results of my research in 4 peer-reviewed articles and presented in national and international conferences.
