Why we still shake hands: How beliefs inform young people’s socializing
choices amidst Covid-19 in Nigeria
Abstract
This study examined the reasons why young persons still engage in the
act of handshake amidst the spread of Covid-19 in Nigeria. Eight young
persons were interviewed and data analyzed descriptively. Findings show
that the participants believe that they are not susceptible to the virus
due to self-administration of hydroxychloroquine and claim on divine
(God-given), geographic (hot temperature) and demographic (being young)
immunity.
