Dear Dr Nanda
We would like to submit our manuscript “A Rare Complication of a Rare
Disease: Pericarditis Related to Ruptured Pericardial Cyst” for
consideration of publication in Echocardiography, A Journal of
Cardiovascular Ultrasound and Allied Techniques.
We believe that our case report addresses an interesting and very rare
complication of pericardial cyst. Our case presents a patient with a
previously known enlarging pericardial cyst who presented with symptoms
of chest pain and heart failure. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
demonstrated that the previously present large pericardial cyst was no
longer present at time of hospital presentation, suggesting that the
pericardial cyst had ruptured. On cardiac magnetic resonance imaging,
there was interestingly evidence of significant pericardial inflammation
and edema, consistent with active pericarditis. Our patient therefore
experienced acute pericarditis as a result of a ruptured pericardial
cyst. To the best of our knowledge, this is a previously unreported
complication of pericardial cyst.
All authors have sufficiently contributed towards writing this
manuscript. They have reviewed and approved the content. This manuscript
is not under consideration for publication in any other journal nor has
it been published previously. The authors have no disclosures pertaining
to this manuscript.
Thank you for taking our submission into your kind consideration.
Yours sincerely
